Art Welding

Welding is a very useful skill yet many find it intimidating. This class will eliminate the fear factor in a hands-on environment geared toward creating artistic pieces. You will learn basic metal fabrication techniques and use of equipment such as MIG welders, grinders, chop saws, and other metal-working tools – everything you need to learn to build your own sculpture. You can choose to make artwork for your yard or an African mask-style wall sculpture. Materials will be steel and/or found metal. Safety instruction and safety gear included.

There will be a midday break followed by supervised worktime to complete your sculpture. This 5 hour workshop is $150. Houston Makerspace and ArtX members discounted fee is $115.

The workshop is open to members and non-members alike and also fulfills the certification requirement for those who wish to use the HMS metals shop independently as a member of Houston Makerspace. The workshop is limited to a very small class size to ensure every student has an opportunity to work with every piece of equipment.

NOTE: Minimum age is 18. Solid, closed toe shoes, jeans or workpants and long sleeved shirts required. A bandana or sock hat to wear under the helmet is optional. All should be garments that are okay to potentially damage. Participants will be required to sign a waiver absolving instructor of liability for injury.
