Learn to weld and eliminate the fear factor! This hands-on class for teens will teach you everything you need to build your own small wall or yard sculpture. You will learn basic metal fabrication techniques and the use of equipment such as MIG welders, grinders, chop saws, and other metal-working tools . You can choose to make artwork for your yard or your wall using scrap and found metal objects. Materials will be steel and/or found metal - feel free to bring your own metal pieces. Safety instruction and safety gear included.
There will be a midday break followed by supervised worktime to complete your sculpture. This class is for teens 13-18. Requires registration and waiver signed by a parent or guardian. This project has been generously funded by a grant from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
NOTE: Solid, closed toe shoes, jeans or workpants and long sleeved shirts required. A bandana or sock hat to wear under the helmet is optional. All should be garments that are okay to potentially damage. Participants will be required to sign a waiver absolving instructor of liability for injury.
